Getting Started
What is a timer chain?
A timer chain is a sequence of timers that run one after another automatically. When the first timer ends, the next one starts immediately โ no tapping required. For example, a cooking chain might have: Preheat (10 min) โ Bake (25 min) โ Rest (5 min).
How do I create my first timer chain?
Tap the New button on the home screen. Give your chain a name and choose a color. Then tap Add timer to chain to add steps. For each step you can set the title, duration, alert sound, and milestone notifications. When you're done, tap Save.
How do I start a timer chain?
On the home screen, tap the โถ play button on any timer card. The chain starts immediately and the active timer screen opens. Each timer in the chain starts automatically when the previous one finishes.
Can I load example timers to get started?
Yes! If you have no timers saved, tap Load Cooking Presets on the home screen. This adds ready-made chains for pizza, bread, cake, and more. You can also tap Add cooking presets at the bottom of the list anytime.
Managing Timers
How do I edit a timer chain?
Tap on the timer card on the home screen, or tap the edit icon. This opens the edit screen where you can change the name, color, reorder timers, and adjust each step's settings.
How do I reorder timers within a chain?
Open the chain editor and expand a timer. Use the โ and โ arrow buttons to move it up or down in the sequence.
How do I delete a timer chain?
On the home screen, long-press a timer card or use the ยทยทยท menu and select Delete. You'll be asked to confirm before it's removed.
Is there a limit to how many timers I can add to a chain?
No limit โ you can add as many steps as you need.
Using the Active Timer
How do I pause and resume?
Tap the โธ pause button during an active timer. Tap โถ again to resume from where you left off โ the timer picks up exactly where it paused.
How do I skip to the next timer?
Tap the โญ skip button. The current timer ends immediately and the next one in the chain starts. Skipped timers are recorded in history.
How do I stop the chain early?
Tap the โน stop button. The session is saved to history as "Stopped" so you can see how far you got.
What are milestone alerts?
Milestones are optional notifications that fire partway through a timer โ at 50% (half time), 33% (first third), or 25% (last quarter). Enable them per timer in the chain editor. Great for knowing when to check on something without watching the clock.
Will the timer keep running if I leave the app?
Yes. ChainTimer runs in the background and sends a push notification when each timer completes, even when the screen is off or you're in another app.
Sounds & Alerts
What sounds are available?
ChainTimer comes with 8 sounds: Boing ๐ช, Blip ๐ซ, Doot ๐บ, Zap โก, Pew ๐, Ding ๐, Woop ๐, and Toot ๐ฏ. Each timer in a chain can have its own sound so you know exactly which step just finished.
How do I set a default sound?
Go to Settings โ Default Sound and pick your preferred tone. This plays for any timer that hasn't been given a specific sound.
How do I mute all sounds?
Open Settings and toggle Mute. Haptic feedback (vibration) still fires so you get a physical cue even with sound off.
Account & Cloud Sync
Do I need an account?
No. ChainTimer works fully without an account โ your timers and history are saved locally on your device. An account is only needed if you want cloud sync across devices.
How do I sign in?
Tap the profile icon or go to Settings โ Sign In. You can sign in with your email address or with Google.
What gets synced?
When signed in, your timer chains and your session history are synced to the cloud automatically. Changes on one device appear on all your other devices next time you open the app.
What happens to my data if I sign out?
Your timers and history remain on your device. Signing out just stops syncing. If you sign back in, everything syncs again from the cloud.
History
Where can I see my past sessions?
Tap History in the bottom navigation. Each session shows the chain name, date and time, duration, and which individual timers completed.
How do I clear my history?
On the History screen, tap the Clear button in the top-right corner. You'll be asked to confirm. If you're signed in, history is also cleared from the cloud.
How many sessions are stored?
ChainTimer keeps your last 200 sessions, both locally and in the cloud.
Troubleshooting
My timers didn't sync after I logged in
Make sure you have an internet connection. ChainTimer syncs automatically when you open the app while signed in. Close and reopen the app to trigger a sync manually.
I'm not hearing any sounds
Check that: (1) your device isn't on silent mode, (2) Mute is off in ChainTimer Settings, and (3) the individual timer has a sound selected (not "None").
The timer didn't notify me while the app was in the background
Make sure ChainTimer has notification permissions. On Android, go to Settings โ Apps โ ChainTimer โ Notifications and enable them.
Google Sign-In isn't working
Google Sign-In only works in the full installed app โ not in development preview builds. If you're on a normally installed version and still have issues, try signing in with email instead.
